Waytr

What is Waytr?

The current state of restaurants right now is less than ideal. I love cooking, going out to eat at new restaurants, and supporting local chefs. After hearing how much these food delivery apps are currently charging restaurants (>30%), I wanted to find a solution that allows restaurants to operate with much less service fees, while promoting a covid-19 safe solution. This is how Waytr was born.

A food delivery app that allows users to order food to open public spaces within a certain radius in addition to the usual services we expect such as: takeout, QR code dine in, and carryout. Why aren’t we utilizing public spaces for food? Cities are starting to close down parking on the streets to open more outdoor tables and public seating in an effort to help restaurants. How great would it be if you could find a table first and then order your food?

Initial research

Understanding the current delivery app environment was key. I wanted to design an app that was very familiar but emphasize features that I’ve noticed that tend to be rarely used on current apps (Uber eats, Postmates, Caviar).

Initial Wireframes

I tried to keep it very familiar but introduce new features in a learnable manner. I designed what it would look like on the user workflow, restaurant workflow, and server workflow.

Restaurant Workflow

Server Workflow

For the servers/deliverers, I wanted to ensure a very lightweight version of the app.
